Joe Merrill is the Vice President of Tourism for Old Harbor Native Corporation. Mr. Merrill joined the Old Harbor Native Corporation (OHNC) in 2013 and is responsible for the overall management and growth of the Grande Denali Lodge and Denali Bluff Hotels located in Denali National Park.
Joe’s life in the Alaskan Hospitality and Tourism Industries began in May of 1972, when he travelled from his home in Portland, Oregon to Southeast Alaska on a summer adventure to the “Last Frontier.” That summer, Joe began his career in Hotels, which extends to this day almost 45 years later, with his work at OHNC overseeing hotel operations in Denali National Park.
Joe has an extensive background in the Tourism Industry beginning in Juneau, Alaska with Sheffield Hotels. From then on he has successfully managed the Baranof Hotel, Westmark Juneau, Westmark Fairbanks, Westmark Inn Tok, Westmark Inn Fairbanks, Holiday Inn Anchorage, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza Anchorage, and Dimond Center Hotel.
He currently serves as a member of the Facilities Management Committee of Visit Anchorage. He has previously served as a Board Member of Visit Anchorage, Member of Downtown Anchorage Rotary Club, Board Member of H.E.R.E. Local 878 Health & Welfare & Pension Trust, Chairman of Fairbanks Convention & Visitors Bureau, Board Member of Fairbanks Junior Golf Association, Member of Downtown Fairbanks Rotary Club, President of Juneau Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of Juneau Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Juneau Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Board Member of Southeast Alaska Tourism Council, Board Member of Downtown Juneau Rotary Club, Board Member of Juneau Museum Association, and Board Member of Juneau Youth Football Association.
In his free time he enjoys hiking, hunting, fishing, cooking and playing golf. Joe currently resides outside of Anchorage in the Matanuska Valley, with a residence along Wasilla Lake, and of course, in Denali National Park during the busy Summer Season.
